The design process:

I thought that a simple, cute cover would be the best way to go for this, since you didn't give any character descriptions. I chose the cleanest book-related photo I could find from public domain photo site Pixabay and quickly did some effects work on it so that it looked slightly muted and pink-toned. While doing this, I also took the opportunity to apply a faint paper texture, to add to the 'school' element of the design.

Choosing fonts was the hardest part of the design (as usual) and took me quite a while, as I was struggling with text alignment. Eventually, I went with Windsor Hand for the handwriting parts and Nexa Slab Thin for the rest. From there, it was a simple matter of adding a heart in for the 'o' to accentuate the romance aspects of the story and changing the color of the author name to suit! I had a lot of fun making this and stretching my design muscles.

Cover: A Perfect World by Julia G.

Life was never easy for the Sioux Indians. Especially for Kira, and her sister, Lily. After their dad was shot by a white soldier, they thought that was it. The white men would leave them alone. But one day, 6 years later, when Kira goes out in search of her mom, she realizes it's not over. The destruction has only just begun.

The design process:

I wasn't sure at first where to go with this, because I couldn't find any good stock photos with Native American elements, and I couldn't find any picture that would suit your characters. However, I found this dreamcatcher stock on deviantART and immediately thought it would be perfect and minimalist, especially since you asked for a more "vibrant" cover. I combined that with one of my favorite serif fonts, High Tower Text, and a flash of Edo to emphasize the "perfect" in your title, and did a little cross-processing to complete the process. This was really quick and fun once I got the inspiration for the cover, and a total relief because I'm usually horrible at making historical fiction covers.

Cover: Beast by Elliot Parker

[A retelling of the Beauty and the Beast fairy tale.] Years ago a Queen was cursed by a powerful wizard who transformed her beauty into an ugly beast. Horrified by what she had become the Queen hid herself away within her castle. As the years passed her kingdom slowly began to weaken. Attacks from outside forces became more and more common. Despite it all, the Queen remained locked within her castle, growing cold and bitter with each passing day. That is, until she showed up.

The design process:

You left this really open, and I love doing fairytale retelling covers, so this was a lot of fun. I knew I wanted a silhouette on a background straightaway to convey the feeling of the Queen's mystique, since she's hidden away in her castle, as well as to show how unclear the Queen's appearance was. I also loved the hand placement in this stock photo and snatched the opportunity to slip in a rose. After experimenting with some background and text effects, I settled on Perpetua Titling for your title and italicized Perpetua for the author text. I decided on the reflection for the "Beast" title to sort of show how the beastly side and the beautiful side of your Queen are just two facets of the same character - hopefully that worked!

Cover: Sinner's Way by A. J. C.

Annabella Balinkay hates watching people die. Unfortunately for her, it happens every time she touches someone who's seen death. So when Colin Pierce shows up at her family's inn and she can't avoid bumping into him, she's surprised to find they have something in common: they both watched his brother die. On the hunt for his killer, Colin seeks the help of Anna and her psychic family. But getting involved with the Balinkays is more dangerous than one might think. With a house that has a personality of its own and a jabberwocky that masquerades as the family cat, the least Colin has to worry about is the man who killed his brother, and who wants to kill him.

The design process:

I was unsure about what direction to go in, since you didn't really leave any design ideas. Eventually, I went with a texture from So-ghislaine that I really, really liked (those of you who regularly check this blog know that So-ghislaine is my GO-TO place for textures). Then I thought I might model the text after the cover of Ignite, but I quickly realized that this wouldn't work for the words in your title. So I fiddled with fonts for a while (this makes up the bulk of my design process usually, no joke) until I realized that bolding the font Champagne & Limousines creates this very cool thriller-esque thing that I used for "Sinner's" and "A. J. C.". I laid some different effects and colors over each other to create the blurring. I also softened the background texture itself to bring out the text more. After some more font-tweaking, I went with Quicksand for "way" in the title.

The design process:

This one was relatively simple - I knew I had all the tools I needed to make a minimalistic cover from scratch in PicMonkey, so I went with a clean font (Quicksand) for the title and author. Then I went ahead and did the things you asked: minimalistic (not a lot of colors), a clock (I tried to make that impression with the "o" in the author name), a blood spatter (sort of obvious over the title here), with an all-lowercase title.
