The design process:

After reading the description of your piece, I immediately knew that I wanted a fire texture to go with the idea of fire elementals. After looking through the deviantART stock database, I went with this one. Naturally, I would have to add other elements of interest in order to make the cover pop more, so I thought using the hand as a symbol of power would work well. For the font, I experimented with cursive fonts for a while before going with something simpler. Cardo was used for the title, and High Tower Text was used for the author name.

Thank you for hosting this cover contest! Enjoy your cover!

Cover: Drakling by Ella Gilbert

Damon is a lowly peasant - a nobody. But when an opportunity to rise above this station, to a position of great power and wealth, he seizes it with both hands. Dragons are rare creatures, with immeasurable strength. Owning one will certainly seal anyone's future. But to take one, Drake must complete eleven challenges. The Lunar's challenges.

I found this nice texture called "Dragon's Bark 2" on dA and stuck a crescent moon in it on PicMonkey. I got this cool font, Astloch, from Google Drawings - another great photo editor that is frequently overlooked, like Word. There are at least 400 fonts on Google Drawings to choose from, and while some look completely terrible, others, like this one, are worth using.
