Brielle Byrd has always been the happy child in the family. Her older brother, Raven, was kind, yet grumpy and mysterious one. Her father and mother were the ones always too busy ruling the kingdom to pay much attention to them. The two children were raised by Lady Cearra, a strict but kind woman. When the king dies, Brielle and her brother are left with a woman who no longer knows what to do with herself. The queen marries again, shortly dying after giving birth to another girl, and more pressure is put onto Raven to become the next king.

On Brielle's twelfth birthday, it also Raven's coronation. After Raven is crowned king, life changes for everyone. Brielle is hidden away as a servant. Lady Cearra and the baby, Harmony, are banished. Brielle's brother has changed for the worst and Brielle knows she must escape. She flees and finds herself in a new world where foes and friends lurk in every corner. Still being pursued by her brother, she joins a circus, and becomes friends with Quarma, a young girl who likes walking on rope, and Emile, a boy magician. Can Brielle bring back her brother that she loves or will they have to destroy him to save everyone else?

Keeper, a girl with a long-lost name, is the keeper of the dream world. A place where she is never to leave and always alone. She is the most feared and longed-for person, everyone whispers. She brings news of death and curses....and she also brings news of blessings.

Keeper meets a young boy, who not only not knows who she is, but when he finds out, wants to see her again! Horrified, Keeper leaves only to have to come back to give him the news of his death. However the little boy refuses to die and Keeper is spending more and more time with him.

Laws have been broken and the illusion is about to end.
