It's about a girl living in a dystopian society. It is a society of totally complacent people, unaware of the odd nature of that life. Jess and the other members of her family are some of the very few people who are aware of the problems in their way of life, including their food supply and travel restraint. while they are awake, they can't say a word if they plan to survive. But when Jess's older brother Thomas is taken by officials, it become a fight for Jess to keep silent. She is now faced with the decision to save her brother and awaken the entire population or stay quiet and agreeable for the safety of the rest of her family.
